Prior to setting up AFM in 2005, Robin worked for 6 years as a Forestry and Rural Fire Consultant providing a wide range of forest management services. He has worked in the forest industry since 1974, working for Baigents and then CHH, holding management positions for Nelson Canterbury CHH regions. His expertise covers Silviculture, Establishment and Protection Operations, and has managed Harvesting and Roading operations. Robin also has considerable expertise in Rural Fire Management, and operates in the NZ National Rural Fire Authority National Incident Management Teams, and is a practicing Wildfire Investigator.
He works with AFM's select pool of contractors to provide the following services to AFM clients. Daryl is a FITEC accredited assessor and uses his considerable expertise and experience in Silvicultural operations to instruct and assess crew members on the skills needed to succeed in their work. He joined AFM in 2010 to provide H S management and implementation services to AFM and our clients. He runs a tight ship ensuring all members of his crew are well trained in the skills necessary to do a good job in even the most arduous of conditions.
He is qualified to supervise aircraft loading for aerial applications as well as being Growsafe qualified. AFM provides Silviculture and Forest Protection services to HFM NZ ltd for their 20,00ha of forest estate in the Nelson area. Action Forest Management has consistently stepped up to the mark and in most cases exceeded our expectations with the quality of work and general positive attitude from all members of the workforce. The Health and Safety of their workforce is paramount, with systems for hazard identification, training and reporting, in our view, far surpassing the industry standards.
AFM provides Silviculture and forest protection services to NPI for 3800ha of their forest estate in Nelson and Marlborough. AFM staff always demonstrate a high level of professionalism with a customer focused attitude, when carrying out land preparation, re establishment and thinning operations in NPIL estate. AFM provides Silviculture and forest access services to Tasman Forest Management for 4,00ha of their managed estate in the Motueka valley. This valuable service helps ensure the safe and reliable provision of power to Network Tasman customers.
Our staff work closely with RFN to provide fire fighting and incident management expertise at fires throughout the Marlborough and Tasman regions. This experience is invaluable when it comes to planning fire protection for your forest, ensuring that the right measures are put in place. Action Forest Management Ltd is a multi skilled forestry business based in Richmond providing professional forestry, fire and rural land management and contracting services. AFM also employees three part time staff for financial istration, reception duties and technical support.
As well as engaging and managing heavy machinery or aerial application sub contractors for their specialist tasks, AFM operates it’s own four contracting crews under the name Action Forest Services Ltd. AFM is committed to minimising the impact of its operations on the environment. All our crew foremen hold Growsafe accreditation for application of chemicals where this is a necessary part of forest establishment. All crew members and Operations supervisors hold NZQA 1772 for knowledge of environmental requirements, with new crew members aiming to achieve this qualification in the first 4 months of employment. ACC tertiary accreditation is only awarded to those organisations that actively demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement Health and Safety in all aspects of their operation.
AFM has retained its accreditation because a culture of working safely is embedded in all areas of the business. AFM was selected as a finalist in the 2007 Nelson Chamber of Commerce business awards for both the medium business award and the primary manufacturing award
