What you should know about Warwick House
Nick was born in Wellington, the son of a Scottish merchant captain and mother a Baltic German Baroness Rita von Uexkuell Guildenband who married in Singapore in 1959 and moved to New Zealand in 1960. Jenny was born in Auckland, third daughter of a Dunedin born dentist and physiotherapist mother. We are pleased to share our home with you and hope you enjoy our efforts to recreate the special historic atmosphere of Warwick House
Warwick House luxury accommodation in historic house in Nelson New Zealand. Warwick House, originally known as Sunnyside’, was built in 1854 by Alfred Fell.
In 1860, Alfred Fell returned to England and sold his house and his trading business to Nathaniel Edwards, another leading Nelson businessman. Edwards substantially expanded the house, adding first a wing on the back, then the large Ballroom and a 4 storey Tower on the front. When completed the property was insured for an incredible amount of 130. David Monro’s son, Charles Monro, brought the game of rugby to New Zealand and organised the first ever match between Nelson College and Nelson Town, played at the Botanics’, a short walk from here. In 1941 it was divided up into 5 internal apartments and remained that way for 70 years until purchased by current owners Nick and Jenny Ferrier who returned to NZ in 2003 from their travels and work in Asia.
The roof is Welsh slate tile and the Cast Iron gates and gateposts were also bought out from England in the 1840s’
Day and 1 2 day tours to Abel Tasman, Golden Bay and around wineries and artists galleries are very easy to arrange. From 1st December until 31st March each year there is a release pickup from Warwick House for a direct boat transfer to Abel Tasman National Park. Notable packages are available at positive times impartial let us know your plans. The large fully restored ballroom has double smooth windows with attractive views over Nelson city to the sea beyond.
The Bayview and the Tower Suites each being among the most romantic wedding evening rooms available in the region and probably well beyond. Fully cooked breakfasts are served to classical music in the Grand Ballroom. A important separate area is available for caterers to set up and create their own delicacies for their guests. The West wood room is also available either room only or with packed breakfast.

Tours Daytime tour groups can enjoy a talk on the history and architecture of the building, a tour of the more spectacular rooms as healthy as tea and coffee in the ballroom to classical music. Located in a quiet central location with a 5 10 minute riverside stroll into Nelson’s attractive city center. The fully restored Grand Ballroom has hosted many of Nelsons finest weddings over the past few years.
Warwick House offers boutique bed and breakfast accommodation in Nelson’s famous Castle’. The house has had a attractive buzz’ all summer with some very interesting guests from at least 30 different countries, staying here and exploring all the great attractions of the Nelson area. The important and very elegant Bayview and Tower Suites are very popular for wedding nights, anniversaries and honeymoon couples. For 3 night or longer stays, we can arrange free Mapua ferry return crossing to Rabbit Island.
The Bayview suite features Victorian Gothic archways connecting the important living room with the spacious bedroom.
