What you should know about Matahua Cottages

Swimming in Nelson, Wine in Nelson, Holiday in Nelson, Fishing in Nelson

We feel very lucky to live on the beautiful Matahua peninsula, and we love sharing our place with family, friends, guests and the many birds of the Waimea Inlet. Elspeth grew up here in the 1960’s when the whole peninsula was an apple orchard. Restoration of the bird habitat on the peninsula’s foreshore is a big part of what we are doing here

Miro Cottage was our absolute fave stay during our month long trip to New Zealand. It was also a very handy spot for exploring the Abel Tasman National park, just a minutes drive away.
After a lengthy trip from the North Island, the outdoor bath under the stars with the birds singing was perfect! We loved staying here! If we come back to this region we will definitely stay here again. The Miro Cottage was a wonderful store to discard the end two nights of our South Island holiday. It has a lovely sunny deck overlooking the inlet, mountain views, a private garden and healthy equipped kitchen. Matahua Cottages are three self contained holiday homes on the shore of the attractive Waimea Inlet, near Mapua village.
The cottages are secluded and private, and also extremely close fair 20 minutes 24km from Nelson airport and less than 5 minutes to the coastal village of Mapua. The cottages are half a kilometer from the main coastal road which connects Nelson City with Golden Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park State Highway 60. It's also on the way to Abel Tasman of course but we were impartial in the mood to relax, so were quite happy impartial to enjoy the cottage surrounds. The outside bath was amazing, with honest the safe of the many estuary birds for company in the evening. The Nelson Tasman region has endless choices for day trips to wineries, markets, galleries, and artists’ studios.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two days in the exquisite Rama Cottage and would gladly have spent more time there such a perfect spot for relaxing in the gardens and vineyards and canoeing or paddle boarding on the inlet. She let us take paddle boards out onto the estuary while the tide was in, which was such a fun thing to do. I highly advocate Rama Cottage for anyone looking for a healthy and relaxing couple of days
